Preparing for High School can be both exciting and daunting for young people and their families.

Young people with disabilities deserve to enjoy all the social and learning opportunities school offers, inside and outside the classroom - but that doesn’t happen easily.

You don’t have to face it alone.

The Preparing for High School Peer Network is for family members of young people in years 5 and 6, with disability, approaching the high school years.

It’s a group where you can:

  • Journey together towards an inclusive education in a mainstream school for your family member with disability
  • Share questions, ideas and experiences
  • Learn from and support other families

Dates and Topics:

All sessions will be held online via Zoom, Fridays 12 - 1.00pm (AEST - September, AEDT - October & November)

  • Oct 18: Managing high school nerves for students and their families
  • Nov 15: Reinforcing the vision for 2025 and beyond

Alison Wilson supported her daughter Grace through mainstream schooling from K-12.

Grace was included alongside her peers to experience all that school offers, through and beyond the curriculum.

What’s a Peer Network?

A Peer is someone with similar experience to you. A Peer Network is a connected group of peers.

A peer network is not a seminar. It’s a group that works when everyone contributes.

The facilitator is there to help the group stay on track, not to provide all the answers.

More details about this Peer Network:

  • Peer Networks are free to attend.
  • We encourage you to come to all the sessions to get the most benefit, but it's ok to come when you can.

  • We ask everyone to abide by the Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement.
