People with disability belong at the heart of our local community, not on the sidelines. Our Thriving: Strategies to move from the margins to the heart of community is a new, free webinar that introduces you to the theory and framework of Social Role Valorisation (SRV).

Social Role Valorisation helps you understand disability in the social context and gives you strategies to support a person with disability to take their rightful place in the heart of community and experience the good things in life.

Date: Tuesday 26 November

Time: 9:30am - 12:30pm AEDT

Where: Zoom

Register here.

This webinar will assist you to:

  • Plan a life embedded in community
  • Identify interests that can lead to community participation
  • Understand the opportunities and cultivation of valued roles
  • Consider the role that support can play to make it happen

Using these strategies, many people with disability have moved from being viewed by others as passive clients or child-like to the respected roles of adult, neighbour, artist, employee and more.

Guest presenter:

Meg Sweeney has been involved with Family Advocacy for three decades, since the arrival of her eldest daughter Jos. Together they have shaped a purposeful life filled with valued roles in her own home, work, leisure, family and recreation. Meg will share some strategies and guiding frameworks they used to get there.

Who is this free webinar for?

People with disability and their families and supporters, who want to develop a deeper understanding of how to support a person with disability to plan and live a good life, included in community. If you’re interested in SRV and its application, this event is for you!
